I am a little late to the party. But hey, better late than never. At Sew Camp this year we received 3 yards of this Soft Black/Warm Stone/Off-White Cinnamon Cotton/Lycra Double Border Floral Print Sateen Twill Milly print from Fabric Mart for a sewing challenge.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UldoenBWamQ/XW054b5c4nI/AAAAAAAAD-w/bx6cV8_sVKE-NYbMKZf-3iwg-0fdDKcfgCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4336.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UldoenBWamQ/XW054b5c4nI/AAAAAAAAD-w/bx6cV8_sVKE-NYbMKZf-3iwg-0fdDKcfgCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4336.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
My biggest dilemma was picking out what I wanted to make. Originally I was going to do a mash up of a Burda pattern with a cool sleeve I saw on Instagram from twistedangel.sews.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2viOGFue8CI/XW07pLuie2I/AAAAAAAAD-8/6MY3ylH3pj4fGxFYvyGBeWl-ER_HIMEfgCLcBGAs/s1600/Sleeve.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="179" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2viOGFue8CI/XW07pLuie2I/AAAAAAAAD-8/6MY3ylH3pj4fGxFYvyGBeWl-ER_HIMEfgCLcBGAs/s1600/Sleeve.PNG" /></a></div>
In the end, I decided to go with V9292 due to time, and well, I have wanted to sew this pattern up for quite some time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fov2cKvtr0o/XW09nQ5iPvI/AAAAAAAAD_I/RmaaF-_LklkjPsLXVM5t9duxYYHUY_TJQCLcBGAs/s1600/V9292_a%2B%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1164" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fov2cKvtr0o/XW09nQ5iPvI/AAAAAAAAD_I/RmaaF-_LklkjPsLXVM5t9duxYYHUY_TJQCLcBGAs/s320/V9292_a%2B%25281%2529.jpg" width="232" /></a></div>
<br />
If you don't have this pattern in your stash, please get it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-34vMzDmvVyg/XW1AyGKRDOI/AAAAAAAAEAQ/qhFi58gORV0rsYf4KpuQiPrMzh6iy_qKwCLcBGAs/s1600/Vogue%2B9292%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-34vMzDmvVyg/XW1AyGKRDOI/AAAAAAAAEAQ/qhFi58gORV0rsYf4KpuQiPrMzh6iy_qKwCLcBGAs/s1600/Vogue%2B9292%2B1.jpg" /></a></div>
It is an easy pattern to sew and the design is timeless. It reminds me of the dresses from the 1950s, and lets face it, those ladies had lots and lots of style.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a1NMVmVXMm4/XW09-ImoMlI/AAAAAAAAD_Q/i62ZqkQJ48kvrT1AHyxm_mAnGs8O2KzpwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4335.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="574" data-original-width="750" height="244" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a1NMVmVXMm4/XW09-ImoMlI/AAAAAAAAD_Q/i62ZqkQJ48kvrT1AHyxm_mAnGs8O2KzpwCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_4335.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This dress is not lined. But in making this version, I can easily make a lining with the dress pieces provided if I want to. The pattern comes with neck and arm facings. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f6jtMRGmGpM/XW1BxGwiLvI/AAAAAAAAEAo/olOca1CUUO8tFWu5rNkwLbK56WA0pnEZwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4340.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f6jtMRGmGpM/XW1BxGwiLvI/AAAAAAAAEAo/olOca1CUUO8tFWu5rNkwLbK56WA0pnEZwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4340.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vzLflTd4IGk/XW1BzeIZICI/AAAAAAAAEAs/8wNlzDCSK8YWo--iWUwuDbLe5y6nJSE_ACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4341.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vzLflTd4IGk/XW1BzeIZICI/AAAAAAAAEAs/8wNlzDCSK8YWo--iWUwuDbLe5y6nJSE_ACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4341.jpg" /></a></div>
It doesn't hurt that this pattern also has pockets,<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mA9Om6oz8xg/XW0-IPX1yJI/AAAAAAAAD_U/A5cDXdLeZlMuy5OkvIN2CKttIv3E8MGugCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4338.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mA9Om6oz8xg/XW0-IPX1yJI/AAAAAAAAD_U/A5cDXdLeZlMuy5OkvIN2CKttIv3E8MGugCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4338.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
and I am loving it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mvQJIsm7OME/XW0-T5XKjNI/AAAAAAAAD_c/_8Gh6AuJzkAmId97e_CuZNxjbQNWyqvBQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4339.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mvQJIsm7OME/XW0-T5XKjNI/AAAAAAAAD_c/_8Gh6AuJzkAmId97e_CuZNxjbQNWyqvBQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4339.jpg" /></a></div>
Had my car keys in here so I am not routing through my purse to find them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sMlfMIAIM6Q/XW0-efoEJUI/AAAAAAAAD_o/fOjzuiG16T8sB7GSkZUHWOMSI8hneZiGACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4324.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sMlfMIAIM6Q/XW0-efoEJUI/AAAAAAAAD_o/fOjzuiG16T8sB7GSkZUHWOMSI8hneZiGACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4324.jpg" /></a></div>
Another feature of this dress is the sexy/proper factor.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YysLQDhpHBE/XW0-pSi_UtI/AAAAAAAAD_w/5e4fSD41gGkZkQADPjVdL0DLNt_ol8CZQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4342.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YysLQDhpHBE/XW0-pSi_UtI/AAAAAAAAD_w/5e4fSD41gGkZkQADPjVdL0DLNt_ol8CZQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4342.jpg" /></a></div>
Hey I can go out to an elegant function or dinner with my husband and show the cleavage Saturday night,<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_0gO7Iy7Sas/XW1Ae6wDhRI/AAAAAAAAEAI/Bte0igSKBWAwCd70WgmE5K8itr2Ou6s5wCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4324.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="109" data-original-width="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_0gO7Iy7Sas/XW1Ae6wDhRI/AAAAAAAAEAI/Bte0igSKBWAwCd70WgmE5K8itr2Ou6s5wCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4324.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
then turn around and be prim and proper on Sunday Morning. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dIHoVJysWE8/XW1AkY5TZNI/AAAAAAAAEAM/RGhME6OMVI8e22rdNsoPYJ7sXPZVVz09QCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4320.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="70" data-original-width="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dIHoVJysWE8/XW1AkY5TZNI/AAAAAAAAEAM/RGhME6OMVI8e22rdNsoPYJ7sXPZVVz09QCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4320.jpg" /></a></div>
Hey there is no walk of shame here. <br />
I hemmed the dress by hand, would have liked to use some lace, but didn't have any handy and didn't feel like machine sewing. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9xCZRsEs6H8/XW1CgiETLFI/AAAAAAAAEA8/TJw08T8zdjob_1m4H1_94X_OfeKKaYWygCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4343.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9xCZRsEs6H8/XW1CgiETLFI/AAAAAAAAEA8/TJw08T8zdjob_1m4H1_94X_OfeKKaYWygCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4343.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I had originally wanted to make the longer version, but did not have enough fabric, so, that just means I get to make another version of this dress when the right fabric peaks my interest. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iqbyZ_2R0Zg/XW1A73tf62I/AAAAAAAAEAg/h-N0yrx1P0ogNP3HFRSTCrYYzq5zIv_AQCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_4323.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iqbyZ_2R0Zg/XW1A73tf62I/AAAAAAAAEAg/h-N0yrx1P0ogNP3HFRSTCrYYzq5zIv_AQCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_4323.jpg" /></a></div>
But until then, I'll just enjoy this one. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

As I sit here finishing up by breakfast and the end of my 4th of July weekend, I'm thinking about my recent experience at Sew Camp and the lovely ladies I got to spend time with. First off, I want to thank Carolyn of <a href="https://sewingfantaticdiary.blogspot.com/">https://sewingfantaticdiary.blogspot.com/</a> for all the lovely photos. Girl we go way back and you could have spent more time sewing, but instead wanted to make sure all of us had enough photos so that all we had to do when we got home was type and post. Thank you, thank you!!!!!<br />
<br />
During camp I got a chance to do a little bit of everything. I even had to leave and sing at a wedding while I was there. It cut down on my sewing time, but I still got 5 pieces done, and my summer wardrobe is a little refreshed for it, which makes me happy., I have not been able to get any sewing done, and that weekend reminded me how much I've missed it. <a href="https://www.fabricmartfabrics.com/">Fabric Mart</a> was a blast!!!!!!! If you ever get a chance to visit in person, please go. I have a very bad addiction to fabric. It's a place I need to not frequent too often as I purchased over 60 yards of fabric. (SIKE!!!!) Who am I fooling. Hey, this addition is better than other additions and it helps me with a useful skill, so I'm not going to complain. I'll take pictures and show you what got purchased in another post. I shipped my box home this year and to tell you how fast they were, the box was waiting for me when I arrived home.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I don't want to keep you guys waiting any longer. One of the garments I worked on at sew camp was McCall 6559.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WBN66ATnmVE/XSIXJCvLyjI/AAAAAAAAD7Q/Br5XKpKB8W4gEHz7XivVEkze6WoYeHBggCLcBGAs/s1600/mccall%2B6559%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1223" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WBN66ATnmVE/XSIXJCvLyjI/AAAAAAAAD7Q/Br5XKpKB8W4gEHz7XivVEkze6WoYeHBggCLcBGAs/s320/mccall%2B6559%2B1.jpg" width="244" /></a></div>
<br />
I think I've had this pattern forever, and it is definitely one of my favorites. I love this maxi dress. I also think everyone owns this pattern. To tell you how old this pattern is, I think it's been around since 2012. Someone please confirm this for me. If you don't have it, get it as it's a classic and should be in everyone's stash pile. It's an OOP pattern, but I'm sure it can be found online if you search for it. This maxi can be worn out to a summer party or function dressed up, it can be worn casually around on a summer day and it can be worn around the house just lazing around or worn to bed as a nightgown. It all depends on your fabric choice and how you want to wear it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jTjQsHnXsOI/XSIYc1h4RKI/AAAAAAAAD7w/8vl3KnN2rdUwOWPt5lrEWZ0_Ty2v3V-0QCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_1942.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jTjQsHnXsOI/XSIYc1h4RKI/AAAAAAAAD7w/8vl3KnN2rdUwOWPt5lrEWZ0_Ty2v3V-0QCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_1942.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
This time I chose to wear this beauty casually. My fabric choice is a cotton knit that I've had a few years that I picked up at Jomar. The fabric is very comfy and I love the feel against my skin. As simple and easy as this pattern is, it's a good piece to ease into when you feel like sewing but don't want to work on anything complicated.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BRqr-GFZbXc/XSIYfz8w58I/AAAAAAAAD70/AOh9xK6zQMIWlaqxJtLGzqGa0cRFzZ0VwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_1939.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BRqr-GFZbXc/XSIYfz8w58I/AAAAAAAAD70/AOh9xK6zQMIWlaqxJtLGzqGa0cRFzZ0VwCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_1939.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Because I was going for a more casual look, I chose to do the racerback version for the back of this maxi which is taken from views E and F of this pattern.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eSyVvFRNC24/XSIXgFWJsoI/AAAAAAAAD7k/nSIw3_tmNcY_Q2srn8FYiwCkcGkjRseWwCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_1951.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eSyVvFRNC24/XSIXgFWJsoI/AAAAAAAAD7k/nSIw3_tmNcY_Q2srn8FYiwCkcGkjRseWwCEwYBhgL/s320/IMG_1951.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I'll be making at least 1-2 more before the summer is over. I hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend and your summer. I'm off to go do some spinning as Tour de Fleece started yesterday. I think I'll also be wearing my maxi today. Let me know what you're up to.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g3_zbs8A4LU/XSIZFAEL0sI/AAAAAAAAD8E/mqcTP205x1sLZ_WVrG3GPGsvv9Wuxf4wACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_1947.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g3_zbs8A4LU/XSIZFAEL0sI/AAAAAAAAD8E/mqcTP205x1sLZ_WVrG3GPGsvv9Wuxf4wACLcBGAs/s320/IMG_1947.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Enjoy and be blessed!!!!!<br />

<div style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;">
</div>
<br />
The Sunday Sweater by <a href="https://petiteknit.com/">PetiteKnit </a>came up in my Ravelry feed in December and it was love at first site. I knew I just had to make it. My yarn stash is abundant (and lets not talk about my fabric stash) so I knew that I wanted to work from it to make this sweater.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/PetiteKnitDK/592040660/Sunday_Sweater_1_small2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" height="640" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/PetiteKnitDK/592040660/Sunday_Sweater_1_small2.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This pattern calls for a worsted weight yarn which is knit on size 8 and 10 needles. The yarn I chose to make this sweater is Lion Brand Scarfie. It is a worsted weight yarn. I had 2 skeins in my possession and only had to buy one extra skein to complete this sweater.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jIsGhJyLDdc/XHLStKmPKlI/AAAAAAAADyQ/TNlBo5ki8XkGfmpXyp1KZSwKcHzHFakPACLcBGAs/s1600/Scarfie-826-205.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1500" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jIsGhJyLDdc/XHLStKmPKlI/AAAAAAAADyQ/TNlBo5ki8XkGfmpXyp1KZSwKcHzHFakPACLcBGAs/s320/Scarfie-826-205.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the year for stash busting and I intend to try and stick to it except for Sew Camp or anything to do with spinning. I'm even cutting back on pattern purchases as I need to focus more on pattern drafting.<br />
<br />
Anyway, one of the things I love most about this sweater is the detail on the upper part of this sweater<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CtznqEmMlX0/XHLaZBrnDvI/AAAAAAAADyc/3-C-jqRdNt4CQhKVMXAdXAz_LWPMA8_tQCLcBGAs/s1600/Sunday%2BSweater%2B8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="170" data-original-width="480" height="224" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CtznqEmMlX0/XHLaZBrnDvI/AAAAAAAADyc/3-C-jqRdNt4CQhKVMXAdXAz_LWPMA8_tQCLcBGAs/s640/Sunday%2BSweater%2B8.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
and the fullness of the sleeves<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

In all the years that I have been knitting, I don't recall ever knitting a worsted weight sweater. I know that sounds weird coming from me, but it's true. I've mostly know either dk and aran weight sweaters. I am still trying to figure out how that happened, because I've learned that I love knitting worsted weight sweaters while making this one, because, let me tell you, they knit up fast, and I LOVE IT!!!!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t6T4VPlx24U/XHLdj-v6Z1I/AAAAAAAADy4/jrey1B9nIvgyyJ36vhITVL3OldR3pjBjwCLcBGAs/s1600/Sunday%2BSweater%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t6T4VPlx24U/XHLdj-v6Z1I/AAAAAAAADy4/jrey1B9nIvgyyJ36vhITVL3OldR3pjBjwCLcBGAs/s640/Sunday%2BSweater%2B2.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This sweater is worked top down and the great thing about that is that you can try this sweater on as you knit it to check for fit and length. I liked that a lot. Being a tall girl, I always have to make my sweaters longer in the body. I added an additional 2 inches I think in the length from what the pattern required. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8xcSgKF9eyI/XHLdjydUXxI/AAAAAAAADzQ/vMnOD6Yg-MgXLoxDZC-ApgXoaXOAyDgtQCEwYBhgL/s1600/Sunday%2BSweater%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8xcSgKF9eyI/XHLdjydUXxI/AAAAAAAADzQ/vMnOD6Yg-MgXLoxDZC-ApgXoaXOAyDgtQCEwYBhgL/s640/Sunday%2BSweater%2B3.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The other change I made in working up this pattern was in the amount of stitches I picked up at the armhole area. If I had worked the pattern up using the amount of stitches the pattern stated to pick up, I would have had a couple of holes that I would have had to sewn up, I have learned that in following the pattern I'm working on, it's okay to pick up a couple more stitches to avoid any holes and still work the pattern accordingly and in finishing up to knit the sleeve(s), I don't add any additional stitches than what the pattern originally required for the sleeves. After all the increase rows were made, I then knit a total of 16 rows before doing the decrease row for the the wrist shaping. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tJOgr82VOZQ/XHLnu-S0YfI/AAAAAAAADzY/AN9UrC5378srpZr4dJV0pVlGaUoqJkDXACLcBGAs/s1600/Sunday%2BSweater%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tJOgr82VOZQ/XHLnu-S0YfI/AAAAAAAADzY/AN9UrC5378srpZr4dJV0pVlGaUoqJkDXACLcBGAs/s320/Sunday%2BSweater%2B5.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
After all these years I am still working on making more garments in color. A friend told me a long time ago, that I should put more color in my life because I had the complexion to pull it off. I still like to wear black, but I can say that I have ventured out.<br />
<br />

During my second term or Pattern Drafting 2, we worked on starting a collection and had to design 3 outfits. This dress was the first sketch I drew for class.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ViVL7gkGxr8/WsFzjJ1_iRI/AAAAAAAADoE/rV5-_ogNtRwXx0659PAFGP9WzQJHAY3rQCLcBGAs/s1600/drawing%2Bof%2Bsweet%2Bcharity%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="95" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ViVL7gkGxr8/WsFzjJ1_iRI/AAAAAAAADoE/rV5-_ogNtRwXx0659PAFGP9WzQJHAY3rQCLcBGAs/s640/drawing%2Bof%2Bsweet%2Bcharity%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="188" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As Easter drew closer, and <a href="http://carriagecornerbandb.com/sew-camps/">Sew Camp</a> (I'll talk about that in another post) was fast approaching, I had to think about my fabric choices, as I knew this was what I wanted to work on while I was there. Originally, I thought about making this dress in a scuba knit, and may still do that in the future, but for some reason I wanted to work with a woven material. My instructor, Michelle, and the owner of Sew Pretty Studios says, knits are too easy to fit and are very forgiving. Wovens are more challenging and you have to work harder for that fit. Plus, she's a seamstress and does bridal wear normally. Since I do knits, regularly, because they're comfy, I decided to pick a woven fabric.<br />
<br />
I am proud to say that this fabric was picked from my humongous fabric stash. I chose this tweed boucle fabric which I purchased from Karlin's Fabric Store which used to be off of Market Street in Philadelphia, PA. I'm sad to say that unfortunately, Karlin's has been closed for sometime, but he had some amazing fabrics. Anyway, I digress.<br />
<br />
I chose this cotton boucle.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-arhBzVFhkOU/WsF3Z8mFNEI/AAAAAAAADoo/-PmXCny4yn4c9Xduid9txhrx5bKpmmWyACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_2178.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-arhBzVFhkOU/WsF3Z8mFNEI/AAAAAAAADoo/-PmXCny4yn4c9Xduid9txhrx5bKpmmWyACLcBGAs/s320/IMG_2178.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
At Sew Camp, my fabric was run through the dryer with a wet cloth to take out the shrinkage. I'll dry clean the dress from here on out I think because I want the color of this fabric to stay rich and well preserved. After it came out of the dryer I then laid my drafted pieces out on the fabric for cutting<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A0wF9iTtuM4/WsF3C5VCDVI/AAAAAAAADoU/c4Ok02pnaCYpApzwTGJ_IZI-CUfvMygNwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_2189.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A0wF9iTtuM4/WsF3C5VCDVI/AAAAAAAADoU/c4Ok02pnaCYpApzwTGJ_IZI-CUfvMygNwCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_2189.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
and later drafted the facings for the dress as I had not drafted them yet.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
I was able to get the dress and lining cut out and sewn together at camp but attached them together when I got home since I did not have enough time to complete it while there.<br />

<br />
<br />
I'm going to stop here for today as there are some really cool details I put on this dress and I don't want to forget anything. Plus there are a couple more pictures I want to take., but here's a sneak peak of the finished dress.<br />

Better late than never, since the pattern is now OOP. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/vogue/1261/1261.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/vogue/1261/1261.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
I made the cowl neck version first. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M_coHNYgBPA/VwE_AUNSgDI/AAAAAAAADZg/x_HhvTYpPpQzcituEjqxvwEQMIWqMeteg/s1600/Vogue%2B1291%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M_coHNYgBPA/VwE_AUNSgDI/AAAAAAAADZg/x_HhvTYpPpQzcituEjqxvwEQMIWqMeteg/s320/Vogue%2B1291%2B1.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
This is an easy and fast make. I literally sewed this baby up in no time at all, the last Sunday evening of January. I wanted something new to wear to work the next day, and I made the whole thing on my Bernina Serger.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D32SwNSq_NU/VwFE1hHU93I/AAAAAAAADZ4/DjHlGmzklbso_jePPxovnRlYL3k_Be8UA/s1600/Vogue%2B1291.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D32SwNSq_NU/VwFE1hHU93I/AAAAAAAADZ4/DjHlGmzklbso_jePPxovnRlYL3k_Be8UA/s320/Vogue%2B1291.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
If you haven't made this top or have it in my stash and have thought about making it, please try it.Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17846280039463458710noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30314881.post-30969844126750785572015-11-15T15:16:00.001-05:002015-11-15T15:16:25.757-05:00Thank You, New Look 6378 and Burda 6764First off I want to thank all of you for the wonderful comments you left me on my last post. I loved working on that dress and was very happy with how it turned out, so thank you again.<br />
<br />
I wanted something new to add to the wardrobe that I could wear out and to work depending on how I styled the garment. I started with New Look 6378. After seeing <a href="http://www.sewtofit.com/2015/11/newlook-6378-kimono-new-life-for-old.html">Andrea's </a>version, I knew I had to have one of my own.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.simplicity.com/images/PRODUCT/icon/6378.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.simplicity.com/images/PRODUCT/icon/6378.jpg" height="320" width="222" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This was also great way to stash bust I had this fabric for a very long time and didn't know what to make with it. I'm so glad the fabric finally talked to me and said this is definitely the garment I want to be. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T6VwCRW0tF0/VkjkDNnxmsI/AAAAAAAADXc/U8Tp2afPenw/s1600/New%2BNook.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T6VwCRW0tF0/VkjkDNnxmsI/AAAAAAAADXc/U8Tp2afPenw/s320/New%2BNook.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I apologize for the grainy pictures but they were taken at the end of the night and the lighting was not the best. This was one of the easiest and quickest garments I ever put together and it was all done on the serger. Only 3 pattern pieces were used. I serged all the seams and did a 3 thread rolled hem around all the edges. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tqc0ISy4lgg/Vkjk-HCaJ0I/AAAAAAAADXg/zs3rC0dZfyA/s1600/New%2BLook%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tqc0ISy4lgg/Vkjk-HCaJ0I/AAAAAAAADXg/zs3rC0dZfyA/s320/New%2BLook%2B2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
The second garment I made was Burda 6764. View B<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.simplicity.com/images/PRODUCT/icon/B6764.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.simplicity.com/images/PRODUCT/icon/B6764.jpg" height="320" width="222" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
This version consists of 4 pieces, the bodice front, back, back band and front band/ties. This is another quick garment that sews up in no time at all if you want a cute little something to wear out at the last minute.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bp_t9E6kcJc/VkjlOw0BlBI/AAAAAAAADYE/NPymD4NSVc0/s1600/New%2BLook%2B4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bp_t9E6kcJc/VkjlOw0BlBI/AAAAAAAADYE/NPymD4NSVc0/s320/New%2BLook%2B4.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I wore it as a halter as I just liked it better that way.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hKccjT4Xwzo/VkjlOze2BuI/AAAAAAAADYA/OTRS5kiCXcM/s1600/New%2BLook%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hKccjT4Xwzo/VkjlOze2BuI/AAAAAAAADYA/OTRS5kiCXcM/s320/New%2BLook%2B5.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I definitely sew a few more of these in my future.Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17846280039463458710noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30314881.post-35474636143930042942015-10-26T22:19:00.003-04:002015-10-26T22:19:46.639-04:00Vogue 1471When I saw Vogue 1471, I fell in love with it and knew I had to make it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V1471.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V1471.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a> </div>
<br />
It is a cocktail dress by Nicola Finetti. I wasn't familiar with this designer so of course I had to check him out, and I must say that I do like his style. He is an Italian Australian fashion designer who launched his fashion label in 1995. This dress is from his 2015 Pre-Fall collection. He calls this a Miyake Lace V-Neck Dress. I thought the dress was very striking and I love to dress up when I have a wedding to do or go to. Since I had girlfriend getting married this past weekend, I thought it was the perfect choice.<br />
<br />
My first obstacle was finding the fabric. I didn't have a lot of time. I made several phone calls and and the problem I came up against was that I could get lace in a 2-way stretch knit, but not with a scalloped edge. I even went to JoAnn's and came up empty. I ended up getting a scalloped edge lightweight nylon lace with minimal to no stretch. To compensate for not having the 2-way stretch, I cut the pattern pieces slightly larger, hence that is why my skirt is longer than the original pattern. I'm contemplating taking off the ruffle skirt to shorten the regular skirt,but haven't decided yet. Below is my review.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4xDzoXQB8IU/Vi7Z57Lx07I/AAAAAAAADWs/nsEYvuB_FiE/s1600/IMG_1801.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4xDzoXQB8IU/Vi7Z57Lx07I/AAAAAAAADWs/nsEYvuB_FiE/s320/IMG_1801.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Pattern Description:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Lined dress (cut on crosswise grain) has close-fitting, underlined bodice and midriff, plunging V-neckline, long sleeves, double-lined skirt, hem ruffle, and exposed back zipper. Purchased trim.<br />
<br />
Pattern Sizing:<br />
<br />
A5(6-8-10-12-14), E5(14-16-18-20-22)<br />
<br />
I cut between a 14 and 16 to compensate for not having any stretch but normally cut a 14.<br />
<br />
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?<br />
<br />
Yes it did, but I modified the skirt and made it longer to compensate for the lace fabric not having any stretch.<br />
<br />
Were the instructions easy to follow?<br />
<br />
The instructions were well written and I followed them to the letter. I love Vogue patterns because they are a wealth of information and they always teach me something new.<br />
<br />
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?<br />
<br />
I loved everything about this pattern. The dress is classy and makes you feel sexy at the same time. I liked that the dress was underlined and then lined. Before you started sewing the dress, you had to underline each piece of the lace which was treated as one piece of fabric after basting and then on top of that, you had to line the dress after that. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OaCBXFDVRbA/Vi7Z-mruC6I/AAAAAAAADW0/wD8MHOU7k8w/s1600/IMG_1803.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OaCBXFDVRbA/Vi7Z-mruC6I/AAAAAAAADW0/wD8MHOU7k8w/s320/IMG_1803.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Fabric Used:<br />
<br />
I had a hard time finding 2-way stretch lace with a scalloped edge. I called all over the place and ended up using a nylon lace with a scalloped edge with, minimal stretch. For the underlining and lining I used a taupe rayon knit with, 2-way stretch instead of tricot. I fell in love with the way the taupe color looked under the black lace and thought it would look good with my skin tone. I got both pieces from London Textiles.<br />
<br />
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:<br />
<br />
I omitted the exposed zipper and used an invisible zipper. To compensate for not having the stretch in the lace, I cut my pieces slightly larger to make sure the dress would fit. I also made the skirt portion longer as I did not have enough time to make a muslin, before cutting this dress out. The model in the photo does not have a large cleavage. I on the other hand do have cleavage so I had to sew up the front a little bit, and my cleavage still managed to make an appearance.<br />
<br />
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lYYFmjfkWK0/Vi7aDXrXMMI/AAAAAAAADW8/0Db8ZV4ERL8/s1600/IMG_1802.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lYYFmjfkWK0/Vi7aDXrXMMI/AAAAAAAADW8/0Db8ZV4ERL8/s320/IMG_1802.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is a dress that only needs to be sewn once, but I actually want to sew it again with a 2-way stretch lace without a scalloped edge and I think I"m going to do that. I definitely recommend this dress to others. If you have never sewn with lace before, this is definitely the dress to try it on. Every girl should have a bit of lace in their closet. Go for it.<br />
<br />
Conclusion:<br />
<br />
I love everything about this dress. As I said before, it makes you feel sexy and classy at the same time. This is definitely a keeper. <br />

That is unbelievable and I have missed you all very much. Life has been crazy busy and eventful, and time got away from me but, I haven't stopped crafting. I'll share some of that with you all in the future, but for now, I want to talk about <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6744-products-46524.php?page_id=96">McCall 6744.</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Add_3_Full/M6744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Add_3_Full/M6744.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
You all might know this pattern better by this picture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6744.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
I have had this pattern hanging around for quite some time. I wanted to add another maxi to my collection of summer dresses and was interested in the racer back of this dress.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_9-j5-TtvVw/Vb5L0p40SDI/AAAAAAAADVU/SF-CeGKKjs0/s1600/McCall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_9-j5-TtvVw/Vb5L0p40SDI/AAAAAAAADVU/SF-CeGKKjs0/s320/McCall.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I originally started with<a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6559-products-22750.php?page_id=115&search_control=display&list=search"> McCall 6559</a> and worked up a mini dress version of it, but the racer back on that dress was not the look I was looking for. I had almost forgotten about McCall 6744 but happened upon it when I was going through my pattern stash and liked the look. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9UPkEJ5z9sw/Vb5L5KVuXoI/AAAAAAAADVg/6vpWy0x2MRg/s1600/McCall%2B6744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9UPkEJ5z9sw/Vb5L5KVuXoI/AAAAAAAADVg/6vpWy0x2MRg/s320/McCall%2B6744.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I especially liked that it has elastic in the waist. I made Version B. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ALGS_xW8cFI/Vb5NVbVhsTI/AAAAAAAADVo/_gMEfZ--9Uw/s1600/McCall%2B6744%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ALGS_xW8cFI/Vb5NVbVhsTI/AAAAAAAADVo/_gMEfZ--9Uw/s320/McCall%2B6744%2B2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The fabric used was a rayon/polyester knit I picked up at Joann's right around July 4th. I originally thought I'd make this dress up for the holiday, but never got around to it. I'm so glad I finally did because I like it a lot. It's very comfortable.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2tcihHhdJh0/Vb5N4GKkV3I/AAAAAAAADVw/37Zeby-RdJs/s1600/McCall%2B6744%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2tcihHhdJh0/Vb5N4GKkV3I/AAAAAAAADVw/37Zeby-RdJs/s320/McCall%2B6744%2B5.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I'm thinking about making a couple of shorter versions to knock around the house in. With the heat we've been having lately, it's definitely one way to stay cooler. Hope you are all doing well. <br />
<br />
Happy Crafting.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/stores/lionbrand/thumbs/l40140a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.lionbrand.com/stores/lionbrand/thumbs/l40140a.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
It was a very easy knitting project that worked up very quickly as it's knitted in the round on size 13 needles. I used the Thick & Quick yarn for this project and let me tell you, it was very hard choosing a color for this project as there were so many beautiful colors to pick from. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5c9JUuGMT1Y/VHVRfaUIjOI/AAAAAAAADTA/YRgV1qJvyVw/s1600/Raglan%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5c9JUuGMT1Y/VHVRfaUIjOI/AAAAAAAADTA/YRgV1qJvyVw/s1600/Raglan%2B3.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Even though I finished it months ago, I only just recently got a chance to wear it with the cold temperatures we've been experiencing lately. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-clOfq1qOWXM/VHVQsRK8I8I/AAAAAAAADSo/8Jrm-yzoYus/s1600/Raglan%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-clOfq1qOWXM/VHVQsRK8I8I/AAAAAAAADSo/8Jrm-yzoYus/s1600/Raglan%2B4.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I cannot tell you enough how much I love this sweater, and I plan to make a couple more in the future. Mr. D got a chance to take these pictures right before we raked the leaves up in the backyard. This was the perfect time to take these pictures as the fall colors accentuated the colors in the yarn beautifully.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x8rhv3yOaag/VHVQsVXgwAI/AAAAAAAADS4/81KE5OZR7f8/s1600/raglan%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x8rhv3yOaag/VHVQsVXgwAI/AAAAAAAADS4/81KE5OZR7f8/s1600/raglan%2B2.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As Thanksgiving is approaching, I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday filled with family, great food and loads of crafting time. Hopefully I can get some sewing and knitting/crocheting done this weekend. I gotta go for now. I'm off to start prepping for Thursday. <br />

I usually make the sauce for the whole dinner and serve in the kitchen during the dinner. Mr. D works out on the floor serving all the lovely people. I've been wanting to make aprons for us for quite a while and thought no time was like the present, so I worked up a couple of aprons for us. Mr. D is a big Star Trek fan as am I so when I found Star Trek fabric at Joanns' I knew what it was screaming to be. I found dark blue baltic fabric to trim it out in. He liked it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s_XEfbKEXW4/VGABjHliCOI/AAAAAAAADSU/2p7vT6R6bqQ/s1600/Apron%2B2%2BStar%2BTrek.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s_XEfbKEXW4/VGABjHliCOI/AAAAAAAADSU/2p7vT6R6bqQ/s1600/Apron%2B2%2BStar%2BTrek.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
I looked for fabric that related to sewing or music but did not see anything I liked so I went with dragons instead. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tWMGAfdO9BE/VGABf-jVu4I/AAAAAAAADSM/hK02byZU0LM/s1600/Apron%2B1%2BDragons.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tWMGAfdO9BE/VGABf-jVu4I/AAAAAAAADSM/hK02byZU0LM/s1600/Apron%2B1%2BDragons.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The pattern I used was Simplicity 2691, a reversible apron.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.simplicity.com/images/product/large/2691.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.simplicity.com/images/product/large/2691.jpg" height="320" width="222" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I didn't have another fabric I wanted to use on the reverse side, I just used white muslin. I widened the apron about an inch to an inch and a half and lengthened the apron by about 2 to 3 inches. Overall I love both aprons and it was something I wanted to do for quite some time. It also is bringing to mind things I want to do and make for the upcoming holidays. I have a few friends that like to bake and cook, so this may be a great present as well. <br />

<br />Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17846280039463458710noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30314881.post-91197985071333888602014-11-09T18:38:00.000-05:002014-11-09T18:40:55.747-05:00Elvis is in the BuildingOr at least for Halloween he was. A friend of mine I met from singing out and about likes to channel her inner Elvis. She had some Elvis tribute thing to go to last month and wanted to dress-up for the occasion. Her way of dressing up of course was to look like the King. She had been eying this costume for a couple of years, but it only came in an extra small and for some of us ladies, that is just not a size we fit into.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7dbRIbNG6us/VF_RlJ77n5I/AAAAAAAADQ0/Ang-G8k4o8o/s1600/Elvis.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7dbRIbNG6us/VF_RlJ77n5I/AAAAAAAADQ0/Ang-G8k4o8o/s1600/Elvis.jpg" height="320" width="253" /></a></div>
<br />
She knew that I sewed and asked me if I could replicate it, and I told her I could give it a try. I did make her aware that this original version was a jumpsuit and she said that would not do. So I then suggested that I could replicate the outfit as two pieces and pull it together in the end so that it still looked like the picture.<br />
<br />
To pull this look off I used four different patterns. For the bodice I used McCall 6793.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/First_Full/M6793.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/First_Full/M6793.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
It gave the length on the bodice I was looking for without the extra piece of course, and the neckline was deep enough without showing too much cleavage. It reminded me of the jumpsuit, just without the zipper. I added sleeves to the top and flared them out so they looked like the ones in the picture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f5tZ5TYAVVo/VF_rA8TAIVI/AAAAAAAADRM/KcRJLg0eayI/s1600/Elvis%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f5tZ5TYAVVo/VF_rA8TAIVI/AAAAAAAADRM/KcRJLg0eayI/s1600/Elvis%2B2.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
For the pants I used the pants from McCall 5890 which is Nancy Zieman's coordinates collection. They are a loosing fitting pant but I took off quite a few inches to get a more fitted and tapered looked.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M5890.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M5890.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
The third pattern used was Simplicity 3629 for the cape with modifications of course. She asked for a longer cape so it covered her bottom. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.simplicity.com/images/product/large/3629.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.simplicity.com/images/product/large/3629.jpg" height="320" width="222" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X_mlxs3AmDQ/VF_1_9c3BSI/AAAAAAAADR0/6AGgKBIkFo8/s1600/Elvis%2B8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X_mlxs3AmDQ/VF_1_9c3BSI/AAAAAAAADR0/6AGgKBIkFo8/s1600/Elvis%2B8.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the collar from Simplicity 3685 to modify the original cape. I also tacked down the edges of the <br />
collar to give it that Elvis look.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.simplicity.com/images/product/large/3685.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.simplicity.com/images/product/large/3685.jpg" height="320" width="222" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R-cROyBM3XQ/VF_25XEC8rI/AAAAAAAADR8/bWqqmPVI5Sk/s1600/Elvis%2B9.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R-cROyBM3XQ/VF_25XEC8rI/AAAAAAAADR8/bWqqmPVI5Sk/s1600/Elvis%2B9.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I self drafted the belt to pull everything together, it is covered the two pieces nicely where you can't tell that they're separate pieces. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TYJkBjxHLl8/VF_rA8B8J0I/AAAAAAAADRI/0AL7I6ZaKi8/s1600/Elvis%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TYJkBjxHLl8/VF_rA8B8J0I/AAAAAAAADRI/0AL7I6ZaKi8/s1600/Elvis%2B3.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f5tZ5TYAVVo/VF_rA8TAIVI/AAAAAAAADRM/KcRJLg0eayI/s1600/Elvis%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
One happy customer. From what I heard, she got it wear it three different times. I'm so glad I got a chance work on this outfit. It make me think a little and get the creative juices. flowing.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.osinka.ru/Zhurnaly/2010/burda/burda_09/00.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.osinka.ru/Zhurnaly/2010/burda/burda_09/00.jpg" height="320" width="237" /></a></div>
<br />
If I could get a second copy of it I would. I have made the turtleneck from it so many times I have stopped counting. For quite a few years I've had a few other patterns picked out from the issue, with stash fabric choices as well, and have just never gotten around to making them.<br />
<br />
One of the things I like about PR Weekend is the sewing I do for outfits I want to wear while there. When I was getting ready for the trip I thought it would be a great idea to revisit the September issue as I was not sure how the weather would be, and I'd have a few clothing choices/options for chilly or warm weather.<br />
<br />
Pattern 109C was one of my choices to take with me. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.osinka.ru/Zhurnaly/2010/burda/burda_09/23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.osinka.ru/Zhurnaly/2010/burda/burda_09/23.jpg" height="320" width="192" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Two of the things that caught my attention when picking out this pattern was the mandarin collar and the bib front detail of the bodice of the blouse. It reminded me of a tuxedo blouse.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.osinka.ru/Zhurnaly/2010/burda/burda_09/23.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.osinka.ru/Zhurnaly/2010/burda/burda_09/23.gif" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I thought the blouse would be very flattering and beautiful at the same time. I also must add that while I was making this blouse, I happened to be flipping through my television stations and just by chance, saw the character Rayna, played by actress Connie Britton, on the show Nashville, wearing a similar top. Their version even had the cuffs just like mine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://assets.wornon.tv/uploads/2014/02/raynas-white-bib-front-blouse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://assets.wornon.tv/uploads/2014/02/raynas-white-bib-front-blouse.jpg" height="320" width="255" /></a></div>
<br />
If that wasn't a sign to finish making this blouse, I don't know what was. A big shout out to <a href="http://couturesmith.com/">Connie</a>, who took my pictures. Thanks Connie.<br />
<br />
I hope my review below is very helpful. If you have this issue and haven't tried any of the patterns, please revisit this issue, you won't be sorry you did.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1FpWp2NOYJI/U4PFkGxql4I/AAAAAAAADOg/tQF0zQRzs0U/s1600/Picture+042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
Pattern Description:<br /><br />Blouse with bib insert and cuffed sleeves. <br /><br />
Pattern Sizing:<br /><br />38-46. I made a 40, and it is very roomy.<br /><br />
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?<br /><br />It did very much. I was very pleased with the outcome of this blouse.<br /><br />
Were the instructions easy to follow?<br /><br />Burda's instructions can be very confusing most of the time, but these were okay. I had to search through the pattern a couple of times in order to find the instructions on the length and width for cutting the cuffs. The bib or as Burda calls it the Plastron instructions were a bit confusing at first but then I had my a hah moment and it all made sense. I actually have to admit that I like the way they constructed the bib. It was very easy and the technique is one I wouldn't mind using again.<br /><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mnYgB0tq03A/U4PFkIYIyjI/AAAAAAAADOY/yNhzv42k9e8/s1600/Picture+043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mnYgB0tq03A/U4PFkIYIyjI/AAAAAAAADOY/yNhzv42k9e8/s1600/Picture+043.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?<br /><br />This is a beautiful blouse and one that can easily be dressed up or down. I don't have any dislikes about it.<br /><br />
Fabric Used:<br /><br />Polyester Charmeuse purchased from Joann Fabrics back in either September or October of 2010. I actually purchased this fabric for this blouse. I am also very happy that I used stashed fabric. A win win all the way around.<br /> <br />
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:<br /><br />None. I had never made this blouse before so I wanted to make it exactly as it was in the magazine. If I make it again, I would not do anything differently.<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Sf-jjZgvBg/U4PFk5MCqFI/AAAAAAAADOc/I-pCNSum-Gs/s1600/Picture+045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Sf-jjZgvBg/U4PFk5MCqFI/AAAAAAAADOc/I-pCNSum-Gs/s1600/Picture+045.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?<br /><br />I would definitely sew this blouse again, and I do recommend it to others. If you want something different that the typical button down blouse, then this is what you're looking for. It's like a dressy tunic but still gives the look of a tuxedo blouse as well. <br /><br />
Conclusion:<br />
<br />I love this blouse and I would/will make this one again. It's a keeper. <br />

I want a new dress to wear so I started surfing the web and blogs for inspiration. I was checking out Wanett of <a href="http://sownbrooklyn.com/">Sown Brooklyn's blog </a>and came across her post on <a href="http://sownbrooklyn.com/2014/02/27/rtw-sexy-reese-beckham-wang/">Reese, Beckham and Wang</a>. While looking at the pictures I fell for this little sexy number by Tracy Reese.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3742/12806453313_9b864e35d1_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3742/12806453313_9b864e35d1_b.jpg" height="640" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
It automatically reminded me of Vogue 1314 by Tracy Reese, which I happen to have in my stash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/First_Full/V1314.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/First_Full/V1314.jpg" height="400" width="378" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm thinking that with a pair of Spanx and some sucking in, hopefully I can pull this little number off. This is my fabric choice. I like the gold flecks that are all over the fabric. It makes it look a little more dressier I think.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YhUp8NX8RYc/Uxz9Yqr0NKI/AAAAAAAADNM/7le_lh63YEI/s1600/Picture+149.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YhUp8NX8RYc/Uxz9Yqr0NKI/AAAAAAAADNM/7le_lh63YEI/s1600/Picture+149.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I purchased it from Jomar a couple of years ago. I'm not sure about the keyhole and don't want to mess the dress up. There is enough fabric to make the bow. I don't know. Should I do the keyhole or just the bow? Let me know your thoughts. With a little luck I'm hoping to get it finished by the end of the week. I've got the gathers done so far. Hopefully I can get a little more done tonight, we'll see. Once Upon A Time is getting ready to come on in 10 minutes and I don't want to miss it.<br />
<br />
Happy Crafting???<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6841.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6841.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
The minute I saw <a href="http://www.1simpleinspiration.blogspot.com/2014/01/happy-new-year-and-year-end-sewing.html">her version</a> I ran, or better yet broke speed limits to get to Joann's to buy the pattern. I knew that it would be perfect and versatile enough to work for various occasions, like gigging, going out for the night, or even wear to work. On Thursday I had the pleasure of having a snow day (SNOW is the new four letter by the way), so I decided to work it up as I played out with the guys last night. This is a Palmer Pletsch pattern, and lets just say, they are making
sure they keep it interesting for us. I would not say that it is easy, but if you're looking for
something with drape, this baby has it tenfold. This pattern had me from start to finish and made sure at the same time I kept my skills sharp. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OJt6vGaspwU/UwDikSZ2kmI/AAAAAAAADM4/T4pJ-eWxYwI/s1600/Picture+132.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OJt6vGaspwU/UwDikSZ2kmI/AAAAAAAADM4/T4pJ-eWxYwI/s1600/Picture+132.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I hope you enjoy the review.<br />
<br />
Pattern Description:<br /><br />Loose-fitting, pullover tops have draped front, and back collar. Wrong side may show. A: self-lined back and very narrow hem for front hemline. B and C: front pleated drape and narrow hem.<br /><br />Pattern Sizing:<br /><br />(XSmall-Small-Medium), (Large-XLarge-XXLarge) I made the Medium.<br /><br />Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?<br /><br />Absolutely.<br /><br />Were the instructions easy to follow?<br /><br />Yes they were. But if you plan on making this blouse, you have to follow the directions exactly in order to accomplish this blouse. The outcome depends on it.<br /><br />What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?<br /><br />I had no dislikes about this pattern at all. If you enjoy construction garments or the intricacy of it, then this pattern is for you. It had me from start to finish.<br /><br />Fabric Used:<br /><br />I think it's a Rayon Poly knit. I purchased it from Fabric Warehouse sometime ago. There is nothing like the feeling of stash busting.<br /><br />Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:<br /><br />As said before in previous reviews, this baby is a little low cut for me so I sew the cleavage up about 1 to an 1 1/2 inches more. I'm not bit about showing off the girls too much. <br /><br />Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?<br /><br />Definitely. I've been thinking about that all weekend. I just want to find the right fabric. <br /><br />Conclusion: <br /><br />This one is a winner. It hide all of my unflattering girlie parts. I love the drape and the construction was very interesting and cool. If you are a sewer and really like construction, then this one is for you. In the end you get your ah hah moment. It keeps you guessing from beginning to end because you don't see the end result until it is finally finished. It's one of those that if you don't pin it together at the beginning, you just have to go by blind faith until it's finished. I LOVED IT. This is not a top to sleep on. If you haven't purchased it, you should.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I know I'm going to try to.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8DlY2ufsbDc/Uv0Fdo0mSFI/AAAAAAAADLs/jDQE3Q1oBeQ/s1600/Picture+116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8DlY2ufsbDc/Uv0Fdo0mSFI/AAAAAAAADLs/jDQE3Q1oBeQ/s1600/Picture+116.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I'm happy about it because I'm trying to recover from a nasty sinus infection that has now moved to my upper chest area. I feel like crap but at least I have some pretty good drugs. <br />
<br />
<br />
I purchased <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6796-products-47105.php?page_id=483&search_control=display&list=search">McCall 6796</a> when it came out at the end of summer.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6796.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6796.jpg" height="320" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I love anything turtleneck or cowl neck, and thought this would be a nice addition to my wardrobe. I didn't make it right away because I wanted to make the right fabric choice. The pattern calls for Jersey, Cotton Knit or sweater knit, but in reading some of the reviews on Pattern Review I noticed that in making fabric choices for this pattern, I wanted to stay away from the more thinner knits because the collar looks a little flimsy. I decided to use a cream and burgundy speckled ribbed sweater knit that I purchased from London Textiles over the summer. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AFjNmceaJl8/Uv0Fca1BKHI/AAAAAAAADLQ/HgY4OajCGg8/s1600/Picture+114.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AFjNmceaJl8/Uv0Fca1BKHI/AAAAAAAADLQ/HgY4OajCGg8/s1600/Picture+114.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I only had a little over a yard of fabric to work with so I had to get creative. The sweater and the collar are cut on the grain, but the sleeves are cut against the grain because I didn't have enough fabric. They are also short sleeved.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v-1JF7mCOnE/Uv0Fchcf_nI/AAAAAAAADLw/0DkJqXkd3A0/s1600/Picture+112.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v-1JF7mCOnE/Uv0Fchcf_nI/AAAAAAAADLw/0DkJqXkd3A0/s1600/Picture+112.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />Since I went against the stretch for the sleeve, I had to make sure I had enough arm room for movement in the sleeve so I cut it a little big. As an added detail, I added pleats in the upper sleeve and I thought it was a nice added design feature.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
My review of this sweater is below.<br />
<br />
Pattern Description:<br /><br />Close-fitting, pullover tops have collar variations and narrow hem. C and D: button trim. I made View C.<br /><br />
Pattern Sizing:<br /><br />(6-8-10-12-14), (14-16-18-20-22) I sew size 14.<br /><br />
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?<br /><br />Yes it did. <br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Were the instructions easy to follow?<br /><br />The directions were very easy to follow. As long as you use the right fabric with this project, the finished garment should be what you are expecting. <br /><br />What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?<br /><br />There are no dislikes at all. If you are looking for a change to your turtleneck or cowl neck collection, this is it. I am a big fan of turtlenecks and cowl neck sweaters. This is a welcome addition.<br /><br />Fabric Used:<br /><br />A ribbed sweater knit I picked up at London Textiles in Cherry Hill, NJ during the summer. I think it's Donna Karen. but not sure. I know it's a designer knit. The buttons used are ones that I had in my stash that I purchased from Jomar a few years ago. I only had three of these buttons left which was perfect as I only needed three buttons for this project.<br /><br />Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:<br /><br />I didn't have enough fabric to cut out all the pieces right so the sleeves were cut against the 1-way stretch, or as they say, against the grain. When I did that, I cut the sleeves a little wider to insure that I had enough arm room. I also made the sleeve cap a little wider. This enabled me to add a little detail to the sleeve and I added two pleats at the sleeve cap area. This changed the look up a little, and I was able to jazz the sleeve up a little.<br /><br />Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?<br /><br />Yes, but not too many of them as the top is very distinctive. I would highly recommend this top to others. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PS5RrzNjA28/Uv0FdUvkePI/AAAAAAAADLk/Cvz2NFSPj9E/s1600/Picture+115.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PS5RrzNjA28/Uv0FdUvkePI/AAAAAAAADLk/Cvz2NFSPj9E/s1600/Picture+115.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
( I have a new photographer at work. I'm still working out the kinks.)<br /><br />
Conclusion: <br /><br />I love how this top came out. I'd like another one long sleeved though. If you don't have this one and you like turtlenecks, you need to add this one to your collection. <br />
<br />
Oh, I wanted to share with you one of my new likes. Instead of a candy bar I just started eating these. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yiOb8RkAu3Y/Uv0Fg4fyxqI/AAAAAAAADMI/GFycoQ9ptmQ/s1600/Picture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yiOb8RkAu3Y/Uv0Fg4fyxqI/AAAAAAAADMI/GFycoQ9ptmQ/s1600/Picture.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>

They are a nice alternative and you still get your chocolate fix. Have a good one. If you're in weather like mine, please stay safe and warm.Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17846280039463458710noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30314881.post-90041579971047249492014-02-08T16:47:00.003-05:002014-02-08T17:36:05.268-05:00McCall 6168The very first time I saw McCall 6168 was when Mimi G. first posted her <a href="http://www.mimigstyle.com/2012/02/diy-wrap-pattern-review-of-m6168-view-c.html#.UvaKXfuoTbM">version </a>of the pattern back in 2012.<br>
<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6168.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6168.jpg" height="320" width="303"></a></div>
I knew then that I wanted to make my own version of this pattern and drove over to Joanns during their next McCall pattern sale only to find out that the pattern was out of print. I patiently waited for the out of print patterns to go on sale online and as they say, patience is a virtue. They eventually did and I purchased the pattern only for it to sit in my stash for 2 years. During this time I thought about how I wanted my version to look. I knew that I wanted some leather involved. Below is my review of this timeless and I mean timeless cardigan. In doing my research on the pattern, it looks like it was first released in 2010. It is now 2014 and it hasn't gone out of style yet. Mr. D says I look a little like a Star Wars character with the leather pants added in.<br>

Pattern Description: <br>
<br>Cardigans A, B, C have long sleeves, stitched hems and shaped lower edges; cardigan A has front pockets that do not lay flat; cardigans A, B have front button closures; cardigan C has optional button closure, wrong side of fabric will show; purchased tops, bottoms and optional belts.<br><br>I made view C - Size 16 because I wanted to wear this more like a coat.<br><br>
Pattern Sizing:<br>

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?<br><br>Yes it most certainly did.<br><br>Were the instructions easy to follow?<br><br>I did not follow them as the pattern pieces fit together nicely. And I might add that at the time I couldn't find the directions only to learn later that they were in the bag that I carry to work. I guess I put it in there for some light reading during my break time and forgot to take it out.<br><br>What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?<br><br>I have no dislikes about this pattern at all. It first came out in 2010 and is still in style now. That alone should say something.<br><br>Fabric Used:<br><br>Sweatshirt fabric purchased from my very first visit to Metro Textiles. I used the inside of the sweatshirt fabric because I loved the way it looked. The texture of it was very pretty to me.<br><br>Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:<br><br>I lengthened the cardigan by about 2 to 3 inches. I also added pockets in the side seam. I'm learning now that I like to sometimes have a pocket to throw a set of keys in or to carry my phone or tissues. <br>

<br><br>Instead of doing a regular sleeve. I chose to do my sleeves in leather for a funkier look to the cardigan. I also added an obi belt made out of the same material I cut the sleeves out of.<br><br>Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?<br><br>Yes most definitely. I'd like to make a few more in a sweater knit and rayon or cotton knit for warmer days.<br>
<br>Conclusion: <br><br>I love this cardigan. If you happen to come across this pattern because it is an OOP now, pick it up. It's a nice way of dressing up an outfit. I can wear this cardigan as a sweater or a coat. It's nice to have this option as I'm dreaming of warmer days or the beginning of Spring. <br>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
January was the month of yarn as I did a little bit of knitting and crocheting. My girlfriend is a major and I mean MAJOR Dr. Who fan. She asked me to make her a Dr. Who scarf and I cringed the whole time while making it because the scarf is so long and can probably be worn by 3 or more people at the same time. There are so many color changes to this scarf it's crazy.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn2.fashionablygeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/dr-who-scarf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn2.fashionablygeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/dr-who-scarf.jpg" height="320" width="266"></a></div>
<br>
As I told her, she is very lucky I love her so much or she would not have gotten this scarf. I'm glad I didn't have to make it as long as the original and she only requested that it reach a little past her knees after wrapping it around her neck one time. Here is the scarf. I was able to get a quick picture before I gave it to her.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-44aPk7Q9Z8w/UvVKWcqwGDI/AAAAAAAADJY/qNs5RvgJUMY/s1600/Picture+103.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-44aPk7Q9Z8w/UvVKWcqwGDI/AAAAAAAADJY/qNs5RvgJUMY/s1600/Picture+103.jpg" height="320" width="240"></a></div>
<br>
I haven't gotten a picture of her in it yet, but I'll try to get one soon. The yarn used on this project was Lion Brand Wool-ease.<br>
<br>
My next project after that was a mini infinity scarf I crocheted from some yarn that I had hanging around from last year. The yarn is Red Heart Boutique Treasure. I normally like the more expensive yarns from yarn shops, but when I saw this yarn, I had to buy it. I have to say, a lot of the commercial yarn companies have stepped up their game.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MzoYM1Tuwig/UvVKkhgzhaI/AAAAAAAADKA/vdY3Y1OSWBg/s1600/Picture+109.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MzoYM1Tuwig/UvVKkhgzhaI/AAAAAAAADKA/vdY3Y1OSWBg/s1600/Picture+109.jpg" height="240" width="320"></a></div>
<br>
It's always nice to do a crochet project because they work up much quicker than knitted projects Lola decided to take a turn wearing it so this is what it looks like on.<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--W4fGvhN-V8/UvVKl6HILOI/AAAAAAAADKI/S_z-Mv-_VHk/s1600/Picture+110.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--W4fGvhN-V8/UvVKl6HILOI/AAAAAAAADKI/S_z-Mv-_VHk/s1600/Picture+110.jpg" height="320" width="240"></a></div>
<br>
The last project I started working on last month was the Still Light Tunic by Veera Valmaki.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/veera/28547655/DSC_8469_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/veera/28547655/DSC_8469_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="225"></a></div>
<br>
So far this tunic is knitting up pretty nicely. The yarn I'm using on this project is Bernat Baby Soft. This pattern is an easy knit. I don't have to pay too much attention as the design is not intricate.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ccUSMiRh-FE/UvVKdimYxFI/AAAAAAAADJo/UgwZbC4iUL4/s1600/Picture+106.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ccUSMiRh-FE/UvVKdimYxFI/AAAAAAAADJo/UgwZbC4iUL4/s1600/Picture+106.jpg" height="240" width="320"></a></div>
<br>
<br>
Plus, it's great for movie watching. I've just caught on to the Downton Abbey craze. I'm on Season Two right now and loving it. The fashion is amazing and Dame Maggie Smith is AMAZING!!!! I've also been watching the series Bomb Girls on Netflix. This show isn't bad either. If this tunic turns out the way I think it will, I'll be knitting another one in black. These will be great for casual Fridays on the job accessorized with an infinity scarf or great jewelry, this pattern is definitely a winner. <br>
<br>Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17846280039463458710noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30314881.post-66832485479627345542014-01-01T16:03:00.000-05:002014-01-01T16:03:04.897-05:00Happy New Year!!!I can't believe another year has pasted us by already. I figured since it was a new year, it was time to start fresh. The past few months have been the most craziest and up and down moments of my life. Many times I wanted to post something, but I just couldn't find the right words. The two most life changing events were that my mom passed away the end of September and I started a new job the beginning of December. I'm dealing with it okay, but I do have my moments. The job is pretty good so far and I made it through my mom's birthday and the holidays, but I still miss her. How do you deal with losing the one person who loved you the most in the world? Anyway, I'm back now. I did not have to sing with my band last night, so I enjoyed watching and hearing my husband's band play. I had a blast even though I was dead tired on my feet. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QTTcnvnbPcQ/UsSBN30q8xI/AAAAAAAADH0/ozhsIx4wr6I/s1600/Picture+093.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QTTcnvnbPcQ/UsSBN30q8xI/AAAAAAAADH0/ozhsIx4wr6I/s320/Picture+093.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I asked Mr. D if he wanted me to make him a tie to wear for the evening and he said yes. He wanted a bass clef tie. As I have never seen fabric with bass clefs on it, I told him I would have to work on that and asked if he would be okay with a substitution in the meantime. He was agreeable and I came up with this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DGwJKv45g4Q/UsR86TsxqHI/AAAAAAAADHc/EmlQrhN5Exs/s1600/Picture+083.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DGwJKv45g4Q/UsR86TsxqHI/AAAAAAAADHc/EmlQrhN5Exs/s320/Picture+083.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--kL46aEZ7ls/UsSBU_es-MI/AAAAAAAADIE/W4LNRhXVy_o/s1600/Picture+095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
It is <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v7104-products-3660.php?page_id=180">Vogue 7104</a>, View C. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V7104.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V7104.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
If you have never made a tie before, definitely try it. It is very easy and works up very quickly. Mr. D. love it. He actually said he would not be opposed to a few more of these, so I will definitely make a few more in the future.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BH50z0Urte8/UsR86a6b9dI/AAAAAAAADHo/zRbMax90uAw/s1600/Picture+082.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--kL46aEZ7ls/UsSBU_es-MI/AAAAAAAADIE/W4LNRhXVy_o/s1600/Picture+095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--kL46aEZ7ls/UsSBU_es-MI/AAAAAAAADIE/W4LNRhXVy_o/s320/Picture+095.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also started working on a design for myself. This is the prototype so it's a work in progress. The actual fabric I want to use is a terry sweater knit with a lace leopard sweater print. I had some leftover drapey black knit that I added some sheer silk knit acquired from London Textiles when I went on an shopping excursion during the fall with <a href="http://sewingbytheseatofmypants.blogspot.com/">Karen </a>and <a href="http://couturearts.wordpress.com/">Claudine</a>. Boy did we have such a good time that day. I was so proud of myself, I had a specific amount I wanted to spend and I only went over by $10.00. If you needed proof about Claudine's once a year excursions to London Textiles, here she is with her loot.. She goes crazy in those bins. I think she actually behaved herself that day. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N_AN-8-18nU/UsR8vjv7x9I/AAAAAAAADG0/iCVcN1M0sDs/s1600/Picture+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N_AN-8-18nU/UsR8vjv7x9I/AAAAAAAADG0/iCVcN1M0sDs/s320/Picture+001.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Here's Karen with her if I can't carry it in this bag, it's not coming home with me.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TEyCs5DOCiE/UsR8vi20hKI/AAAAAAAADGs/eAX-OSb5eFo/s1600/Picture+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TEyCs5DOCiE/UsR8vi20hKI/AAAAAAAADGs/eAX-OSb5eFo/s320/Picture+002.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Here I am in all my glory. I was so happy with what I was able to get that day. I was all about shirting fabrics. If it couldn't fit in the bag, it wasn't going home. I'm learning to try and control my addiction.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TnlKb4y1sUA/UsR8vs8557I/AAAAAAAADGw/TETue0dZjgM/s1600/Picture+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TnlKb4y1sUA/UsR8vs8557I/AAAAAAAADGw/TETue0dZjgM/s320/Picture+003.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Back to my latest project. I started with New Look 6247, View A. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/newlook/2013/6247/6247.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/newlook/2013/6247/6247.jpg" width="222" /></a></div>
<br />
Even though this pattern is made for wovens, I wanted a more drapey look and figured I could take things in as I go. The fit is not accurate yet, but it's pretty close. With a bit of tweaking, I think it will be just what I was thinking of. Here's the front<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o04BqeJMYWc/UsR82psbtII/AAAAAAAADHQ/9y4Y_J_vofU/s1600/Picture+101.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o04BqeJMYWc/UsR82psbtII/AAAAAAAADHQ/9y4Y_J_vofU/s320/Picture+101.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the back. I didn't think to get a side view shot, but I like how the top turned into a high/low top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uL3-eiKO_I4/UsR82TEh2EI/AAAAAAAADHM/IA7ax5_VJpA/s1600/Picture+102.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uL3-eiKO_I4/UsR82TEh2EI/AAAAAAAADHM/IA7ax5_VJpA/s320/Picture+102.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The sleeves are not finished yet, but I didn't think anyone would notice and they didn't. I will trim them in black knit like I did to the neckband. <br />
<br />
I will most likely make the original pattern the way it's supposed to be made in the future, but I like what I did with the pattern as well.<br />
<br />
That's it for me for now. Happy New Year to you all. I hope this year is filled with all sorts of
crafty goodness whether it be learned through a new skill, technique or
an ah hah moment as you sew, knit, crochet or whatever thing you are into
at the moment. Have a blessed one.<br />

(LOVE IT)Before I get started on this post, I just want to thank you all for the lovely comments you left me on my last 2 posts, the Sea of Love Dress and the Alice and Olivia dress refashion. I worked very hard on both dresses and it was nice to see the final outcome on both dresses and like them, because sometimes, I'm not always sure about some of the choices I make. This time, I can gladly say that everything worked out well. <br />
<br />
I wanted Mr. D to match me at the wedding so I stopped at Jomar a couple of months ago during an awesome sale they were having and got the shirting I used to make his shirt. I think I paid either a $1.00 or $1.50 a yard. The shirting is a cotton fabric that does wrinkle easily, but he doesn't care and loves it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PP76rCxmntw/UgBkov2mcYI/AAAAAAAAC1k/vfA1z-YEzkA/s1600/Picture+789.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PP76rCxmntw/UgBkov2mcYI/AAAAAAAAC1k/vfA1z-YEzkA/s320/Picture+789.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I used Kwik Sew <a href="http://kwiksew.mccall.com/k3422-products-20003.php?page_id=3342">3422</a>.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://kwiksew.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/K3422.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://kwiksew.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/K3422.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://sewingbytheseatofmypants.blogspot.com/">Karen </a>told me about this pattern, and at the time I purchased it, Kwik Sew had been purchased by McCall Pattern Company. The pattern was discontinued or stopped for a time. I first purchased it through Amazon only to receive an email stating they couldn't send the pattern to me. I then went to Fabric.com and they only had 2 copies of the pattern left. I got one of the 2 patterns. I'm happy to say one year later that the pattern is now available again and you can even download it as a PDF on <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/patterns/12094">Pattern Review</a>.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KBskj1OQAU0/UgBkxCm1hlI/AAAAAAAAC1w/83w4AQrI4cE/s1600/Picture+791.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KBskj1OQAU0/UgBkxCm1hlI/AAAAAAAAC1w/83w4AQrI4cE/s320/Picture+791.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This was my first time doing a cuffed shirt for my man, and I enjoyed making it. I've made a short sleeved shirt for him before using another Kwik Sew pattern . The process was pretty much the same except for the cuffs, plackets and neckband. The plackets were the hardest part for me, but I figure, I can only get better at them as I make each new shirt that he requests, and yes, there will be more.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8VVdyQRsqjw/UgBsHXXvm2I/AAAAAAAAC2E/qoYILcFhZ5M/s1600/Picture+801.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8VVdyQRsqjw/UgBsHXXvm2I/AAAAAAAAC2E/qoYILcFhZ5M/s320/Picture+801.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
(Sorry the shirt's a little wrinkled. I tried to steam it a little, hence the water mark.)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
He's been approving fabric and telling me what he wants. I have really opened up a can of worms here. This is an awesome pattern to work with and if you need a shirt pattern
for your man, get this one.<br />
<br />

<br />
You will not be disappointed Mr. D just
loves the fit. If he's happy, I'm happy.<br />
<br />
On to the next project. By the way, has anyone seen a pattern for a mens' knit polo shirt. I've been looking and haven't found one yet. I getting ready to cut up one of Mr. D's polo shirts now to make a pattern. Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17846280039463458710noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30314881.post-19652561700994874682013-07-28T21:11:00.001-04:002013-07-28T21:11:52.397-04:00Sea of Love Dress I first saw this dress on Pinterest and kept it on my list just in case an event should come up that I could wear it to. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QnV9_j7rMEA/UfK4g35n-eI/AAAAAAAAC0g/qrsb_XGAvKQ/s1600/black+dress+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img bba="true" border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QnV9_j7rMEA/UfK4g35n-eI/AAAAAAAAC0g/qrsb_XGAvKQ/s320/black+dress+1.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Well, Mr. D and I were invited to a wedding and I thought, oh, I've got the perfect dress inspiration. It was too warm to wear the long sleeve version, so my version had to be for the summer and I didn't want to wear a strapless dress, so I changed things up a little. I looked at many patterns to try and figure out which would work best for me but in the end I went with McCall 6466 for the bodice.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6466.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/M6466.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
I had to do a bit of lengthening to make it work, but it worked out. The pattern I used had a midriff piece that I did not use so I actually used it to help me add length to the bodice. I decided not to make the bodice as long as my inspiration picture because I didn't like the look with the sheer fabric, and lets face it, gravity has been working against me lately and I haven't had time to work it off. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R7oxJhaXQQM/UfW5yksVaxI/AAAAAAAAC08/lGe1J0GJkQU/s1600/Picture+788.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R7oxJhaXQQM/UfW5yksVaxI/AAAAAAAAC08/lGe1J0GJkQU/s320/Picture+788.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I used Vogue 2902 for the skirt.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V2902.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V2902.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I wanted to go as vintage as possible as the vintage patterns tend to have a much fuller skirt than most of the patterns that are out there today. The only problem I had was when I went to do my second panel of sheer fabric, the fabric that I chose was not wide enough for me to cut a second panel piece. Hence, that is why I only have one sheer panel in the dress. To give the skirt the voluminous full look, I made a short underskirt of tulle and netting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qlcOGNCn0rM/UfW6ZGUgD3I/AAAAAAAAC1E/7LdwA2ovikA/s1600/Picture+792.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qlcOGNCn0rM/UfW6ZGUgD3I/AAAAAAAAC1E/7LdwA2ovikA/s320/Picture+792.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
To finish off the neckline and armhole areas I used bias binding. I wasn't sure about it at first, but loved the look in the end. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0Jo5u7buTJE/UfW5sCPukdI/AAAAAAAAC00/t9yYw8ilzKg/s1600/Picture+787.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0Jo5u7buTJE/UfW5sCPukdI/AAAAAAAAC00/t9yYw8ilzKg/s320/Picture+787.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I purchased the sheer fabric from Joanns and the dress fabric is a satin fabric that picked up at Jomar. Overall I'm very happy with how this dress turned out, and I got mad compliments at the wedding. A good time was had by all and I was able to get my dance on. Next up is Mr. D's matching shirt that I made. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pbIguhe6GmE/UfW-2whcaOI/AAAAAAAAC1Q/pokHmQqsWs8/s1600/Picture+795.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pbIguhe6GmE/UfW-2whcaOI/AAAAAAAAC1Q/pokHmQqsWs8/s320/Picture+795.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I think I may be in trouble here as he loved it so much he wants more of them. I hope you all had a great weekend with lots of crafting. I know I did as I only finished everything about 15 minutes before I had to run and get changed for the wedding. Enjoy your weekend. More good stuff to post.Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17846280039463458710noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30314881.post-35142542868518917122013-07-17T14:27:00.000-04:002013-07-17T14:27:00.619-04:00Going Natural and McCall 6554 For sometime now I have been having issues with my hair due to all the stress and changes in my life whether it was work or dealing with the situation concerning my mother. I even went to a dermatologist and it helped a little but then my hair would break off in other spots that were not treated. A couple of months ago on a Wednesday night I came home and decided to cut all of my hair off. I went into the bathroom and took a pair of scissors to it. I then called my hairdresser up afterwards and let her know what I did. Let's just say the conversation was very interesting.<br />
<br />
I am now 2 months in and I'm liking the natural look. I just wish my fro was bigger, but I'm glad to report that it is now healthy and looks a lot better. Time will tell (between December and February) if going natural solved my problem. My hair tends to break-off during those months. <br />
<br />

<br />
In sewing news I have wanted a maxi skirt for a long time and have had this fabric sitting for a few months now. I contemplated making a maxi dress out of it, but I wanted a solid cream at the top and the stripes at the bottom. I could not find a solid cream to match close enough so I decided to make it a skirt. The pattern I used was <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6654-products-29596.php?page_id=113">McCall 6654</a>. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I think quite a few people have used this pattern in blogland. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OL024jKoZho/UebfMwbMQoI/AAAAAAAACzo/2okU-UXYN3Y/s1600/M6654+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" iya="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OL024jKoZho/UebfMwbMQoI/AAAAAAAACzo/2okU-UXYN3Y/s320/M6654+2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
It is literally three pieces (front, back and waistband) and the easist of skirts to put together. I had mine sown up in a little over an hour, if that. I paired with with a tank top and shear tank top to go over the top which I purchased from Body Central. </div>

Thank you so much for all the wonderful compliments about my band. We do try to have a lot of fun when we play. As long as the crowd is happy, we are happy too.<br />
<br />
One of my co-workers recently asked me to make her dress for her sister’s wedding.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>With schedules being crazy, her sister being impatient, she went ahead and ordered this Alice + Olivia dress from online for $297.00, only to turn around and ask me to make alterations/make the dress over.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
We got together a couple of weekends ago and she told me that her sister wanted me to drape the bodice making it a little blousy and to give her a waistline.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A trip to Joanns was in order and we got to drive through the traffic for the U.S. Open that was held in our area this year.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Not to stray from the subject at hand, but my favorite thing was all the homes that opened up their driveways and lawns for people to park for a fee ranging from $25 to $30 a spot.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c8k0MDliotA/Uc3UrdCEXMI/AAAAAAAACzE/G6Bi2LvUuC0/s320/golf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c8k0MDliotA/Uc3UrdCEXMI/AAAAAAAACzE/G6Bi2LvUuC0/s320/golf.jpg" xya="true" /></a></div>
<br />
I loved the bidding wars going on between neighbors.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I hear this goes on a lot, but I had never seen it before.</div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
At Joanns we were lucky enough to actually find a lace to match the chiffon fabric of her dress.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<br /></div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n-Oyqd-zC0w/Uc3Tg3eYYhI/AAAAAAAACy4/FUMJHLvd6e8/s481/Kate+Dress+3%255B2%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n-Oyqd-zC0w/Uc3Tg3eYYhI/AAAAAAAACy4/FUMJHLvd6e8/s320/Kate+Dress+3%255B2%255D.jpg" width="179" xya="true" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bArR3WjwiPo/Uc3TdFTKwvI/AAAAAAAACyo/rXQ9TpXQ2sk/s490/Kate+Dress+1%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bArR3WjwiPo/Uc3TdFTKwvI/AAAAAAAACyo/rXQ9TpXQ2sk/s320/Kate+Dress+1%255B1%255D.jpg" width="189" xya="true" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
I overlapped the lace to make a band on the front of her dress and sewed it on by hand as the fabric is very delicate.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>To give the dress a little pizzazz and glitz we picked out diamond beading to lay on top of the lace.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Here is the beading pinned on to the dress.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QTsJ6tEcWjQ/Uc3Te3t6dgI/AAAAAAAACys/KEz6bR1V_qg/s640/Kate+Dress+2%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QTsJ6tEcWjQ/Uc3Te3t6dgI/AAAAAAAACys/KEz6bR1V_qg/s320/Kate+Dress+2%5B1%5D.jpg" width="240" xya="true" /></a></div>
<br />
At this point I only have to sew the beading on and then hem the dress up a little as it a little long for their liking.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The wedding is in a few weeks, but I’m hoping to have this done by the weekend when I see her for her last fitting. I do apologize for the pictures not being the best quality. They were taken with my iphone. Have a great weekend!!!</div>
