Family Update and some sewing

First of all , I would like to thank all of you for the well wishes and prayers. The more prayers the better, they are helping and working. My mother is doing better every day but I know it's going to be a long road. My MIL is doing alright as well. I just wish we could get her to stop smoking as the doctors have told us that is one thing she can't do. But, she is not willing to stop.

In other news, my project for Knit Picks is coming along nicely. I should be done soon, since it's due back to them by the end of the month. Then hopefully I can get back to my knitting projects that are already in progress.

This past weekend I worked on New Look 6828.

No time like the present to get this one done since I've only had it cut out and sitting since late Spring. I did View A with sleeves. I love this dress. I purchased the fabric at one of my favorite places, Fabric Warehouse in Bensalem, PA. The construction was very simple and easy. The hardest part was doing the gathers.

After that, you pretty much fly through the rest of the it. I wore it to work today and got quite a number of compliments. Once they found out I made the dress, a few of the girls including my boss asked me if I could make them one. I have to think about that one, as I wouldn't know what to charge and if it's worth it.

I also reworked my mother's padded cushion for her travel wheelchair. I talked about it in my last post. Well, the staples weren't going into the boarding all the way, so I went to JoAnn's and found upholstery tacks and used those instead. I actually think it looks nicer.

Last week I got a chance to iron the pattern pieces for McCalls 5978 and Butterick 5030. This week hopefully I'll cut out the fabric and finally cut out the pieces for my trench coat. I am so behind on that.

Too cute, love the dress on you and no it wouldn't be worth it to make the dress for your co-workers, once you start they won't ever stop asking, just say NO, can you tell I'm speaking from experience. I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. I've never smoked but I know from other's that it's a very hard habit to break.

Love the dress!! Do you have the "gathering foot" for your sewing machine? That makes the gathers a piece of cake.

On the sewing for a co-worker I guess I would say it depends on a lot of factors. How long did it take you to make this dress (though the next one would be faster?) How much do you like this co-worker? Is she an overly picky type? In my experience, most people expect to pay even less than they would at discount stores (which is why it's a turnoff to me, and I won't do it anymore.) The fact that she said she would pay for the fabric is a bit of a tip off to me that she may think that is the bulk of the cost. If you really like her and want to be nice, you're better off just making her one as a gift.

Don't even think about it girl!!! You're not a factory in China. It's not worth your highly valuable time ;) You know my feelings on this subject. They can go to H&M and get a knock off of the dress. xoxoxo

Hope MIL quits soon.

Thanks for the updates on the family. I will keep them in my prayers - as it is powerful.

Great job on the New Look pattern. Really nicely done.

I agree with everyone, it is not as easy to whip up something as people think. I make things for my family and roommates and have helped my co-worker make something for herself. She appreciates it a lot more that way.

Cute dress!!! I ditto the no to coworkers, etc on making one for them. Its not worth your time, and that kind of thing seldom goes well. Keep it as something fun for you!

Prayers keep flying in your direction!

The dress came out great and looks good on you.

As for sewing for others... I've been there done that and now when I'm asked... I tell them its cheaper to purchase from the store.

Continued Get Well Soon Wishes to your Mom and MIL.
