Happy New Year!!!

I can't believe another year has pasted us by already.  I figured since it was a new year, it was time to start fresh.  The past few months have been the most craziest and up and down moments of my life.  Many times I wanted to post something, but I just couldn't find the right words.  The two most life changing events were that my  mom passed away the end of September and I started a new job the beginning of December.  I'm dealing with it okay, but I do have my moments.  The job is pretty good so far and I made it through my mom's birthday and the holidays, but I still miss her.  How do you deal with losing the one person who loved you the most in the world?   Anyway,  I'm back now.  I did not have to sing with my band last night, so I enjoyed watching and hearing my husband's band play.  I had a blast even though I was dead tired on my feet.

I asked Mr. D if he wanted me to make him a tie to wear for the evening and he said yes.  He wanted a bass clef tie.  As I have never seen fabric with bass clefs on it, I told him I would have to work on that and asked if he would be okay with a substitution in the meantime.  He was agreeable and I came up with this.

It is Vogue 7104, View C.

If you have never made a tie before, definitely try it.  It is very easy and works up very quickly.  Mr. D. love it.  He actually said he would not be opposed to a few more of these, so I will definitely make a few more in the future.

I also started working on a design for myself.  This is the prototype so it's a work in progress.  The actual fabric I want to use is a terry sweater knit with a lace leopard sweater print.  I had some leftover drapey black knit that I added some sheer silk knit acquired from London Textiles when I went on an shopping excursion during the fall with Karen and Claudine.  Boy did we have such a good time that day.  I was so proud of myself, I had a specific amount I wanted to spend and I only went over by $10.00.  If you needed proof about Claudine's once a year excursions to London Textiles, here she is with her loot..  She goes crazy in those bins.  I think she actually behaved herself that day.

Here's Karen with her if I can't carry it in this bag, it's not coming home with me.
Here I am in all my glory.  I was so happy with what I was able to get that day.  I was all about shirting fabrics.  If it couldn't fit in the bag, it wasn't going home.   I'm learning to try and control my addiction.

Back to my latest project.  I started with New Look 6247, View A.

Even though this pattern is made for wovens, I wanted a more drapey look and figured I could take things in as I go.  The fit is not accurate yet, but it's pretty close.  With a bit of tweaking, I think it will be just what I was thinking of.  Here's the front

Here is the back.  I didn't think to get a side view shot, but I like how the top turned into a high/low top.

The sleeves are not finished yet, but I didn't think anyone would notice and they didn't.  I will trim them in black knit like I did to the neckband.

I will most likely make the original pattern the way it's supposed to be made in the future, but I like what I did with the pattern as well.

That's it for me for now.  Happy New Year to you all.  I hope this year is filled with all sorts of crafty goodness whether it be learned through a new skill, technique or an ah hah moment as you sew, knit, crochet or whatever thing you are into at the moment.  Have a blessed one.

Next year, let's get a photo with all of us together! That top looks great in the silk knit. I have only made 3 undershirts with that fabric. I wear them all the time, but they are not much to blog about.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ANDREA! Glad to see you back! What a really, really cute tie on Mr D! I've never made a tie before and wish my hubby wore them so I could! Maybe this is the time to convince him to dress up!

Love, love, love your look! You inspired me to go natural too!

I liked the sheer yoke on the front of the top and then you turn around--wowza! Love the sheer back panel and high-low hem. Fabulous!
